In the past two months, Stranger Things has quite literally taken over the world. And in a recent podcast interview, the show’s two editors shared some insights into how their work helped shape the show into what it is.

A quick note about filmmaking podcasts before we dive in. Though tons of new shows in this niche have sprung up in the past year or so, the Go Creative Show with Ben Consoli has been going strong for more than three years, and it’s still among the very best.

stranger-thingsAnd though Consoli is really in his wheelhouse with cinematographer interviews — he’s done some incredible ones with high level industry DPs like Igor Martinovic (House of Cards & The Night Of), Dana Gonzalez (Fargo), and Michael Slovis (Breaking Bad) — he also brings on some top notch post-production professionals as well.

His latest show, Go Creative’s 100th episode no less, is with Kevin Ross and Dean Zimmerman, the editing duo behind the first season of Stranger Things. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should probably stop reading this and go binge watch it for a day straight. It’s electrifyingly good, both in terms of the story and characters, and in terms of how well it’s crafted.

So without any further ado, here’s the latest episode of the Go Creative Show with the editors of Stranger Things. If for whatever reason the embed below doesn’t work, head on over to the show’s website where you can listen directly.

And here’s a brief overview of what Ben, Kevin, and Dean chat about throughout the hourlong show.

  • Editing for snappy dialogue
